Head of Port Operations
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and supervise all port operations, including vessel scheduling, and terminal activities.
- Monitor and manage port resources such as equipment, facilities, and labour, to optimize operational efficiency.
- Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices to enhance productivity and safety.
- Enforce safety protocols and regulatory compliance measures to protect employees, cargo, and the environment.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits.
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies and authorities to maintain necessary permits and licenses.
- Collaborate with customs officials, port authorities, and government agencies to ensure smooth operations and regulatory compliance.
- Address customer inquiries, resolve issues, and provide exceptional customer service to enhance satisfaction.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track operational performance.
- Analyze data and generate reports on port activities, productivity, and service levels.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Recruit, train, and mentor a competent team of port operations staff.
- Set performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Managements or in a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years work experience in port operations, terminal management, or related maritime roles.
- Holder of a driving licence.
- Strong knowledge of maritime industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Proficient in using port management software and technology.
- Have excellent written and spoken English skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytics, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Available to work irregular hours due to the nature of the industry.
- Flexible to travel.
- A PFSO certificate will be considered an asset.
