First ADCA Course nearing completion

The first programme to be held at the Ableman Drilling Careers Academy (ADCA), the eight-week full time Floorhand Workforce Certificate, is now nearing completion.

James R. Ward, lead instructor for the Oil & Gas Drilling Floor-hand/Roustabout Programme at Lone Star College, Houston, started delivering the first module, an introduction to oil and gas, in February 2015 in Malta. Mr Ward is joined by two other specialist lecturers, Michael D. Branch and Dan P. Hernandez, who are delivering specific units according to their expertise.

The training room is equipped with specialised equipment to allow for hands on training during the course. This enables the trainees to get a broad overview of all the different types of tasks that they would typically be expected to carry out on an oil rig. There is a big emphasis on safety and punctuality, with the trainees having to follow safety drills at least daily.

Mr Ward is impressed with the student’s thirst for knowledge and willingness to participate in all the sessions.
The trainees are also impressed with the programme content and the high level of investment in equipment, to enable them to follow their course. “The Ableman Drilling Careers Academy is very organised, serious and everything is well thought out,” one of the trainees said.

His colleagues agreed: “We are going down to basics with this course, learning the proper terminology and, so far, it has been very detailed and interesting.”

Following the final modules of Introduction to WellCap and Rig Pass, the 24 students are expected to graduate at the end of March.
