Another First for the Academy
MMH Academy has launched two courses relating to lifting operations. The Rigging Course and Banksman/Slinger course are aimed at candidates involved in operations requiring the highest operational and safety standards whilst following industry best practice. Previously, candidates wishing to undertake this level of training had to travel overseas but now, for the first time, MMHA is offering it in Malta.
The need for this suite of courses was born out of MMH’s own operational requirements to provide top class facilities and services for national and international marine and oil & gas companies. The training, delivered through MMH’s own Academy, strengthens the capabilities and good governance in developing the Mediterranean Maritime Hub into a regional logistic and operating base for our international clients.
The courses’ content is in accordance with OPITO standards and Industry Best Practice and is designed to deliver the theoretical and practical requirements of lifting, slinging, rigging, and controlling crane operations. The courses consist of 30% theoretical knowledge and 70% practical exercises, which are delivered in a designated safe training area of MMH’s operational Hub in Valletta port. Candidates must pass both the theoretical and practical assessments to be deemed competent to work under supervision.
Whilst this course was developed to suit our company’s requirements, we are keen to be part of the growth of Malta’s local talent development, including the companies and people we collaborate with or work in our sector. To this effect, these courses are available for the local market, especially those working in ports and industries involved in lifting operations.
